Gloriann Liu

For more than fifteen years, Gloriann Liu has been photographing the people and cultures of the Middle East, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. “After several trips to the Middle East after 9/11,” Liu says, “I became painfully aware that the information I was receiving from the mainstream media in the U.S. often included half-truths and sometimes was completely false. It became my mission to address common cultural misunderstandings and to call attention to the goodness of most of the people that I met. Though their lives are filled with countless hardships, many have invited me into their homes and shown me great kindness and hospitality.”
