Connie Samaras (b. 1950s)
Connie Samaras works in film and photography to capture the “speculative landscapes” of progress. She depicts physical manifestations of socio-economic development, such as infrastructure and urban growth. Hovering between genesis and completion, her scenes evoke the uncertainty of the future. Samaras lives in Los Angeles, where she is a professor of studio art and an affiliated faculty member of the Women’s Studies department at UC Irvine. She also lectures at institutions around the country, and regularly publishes written criticism.
