Shepard Fairey is an American contemporary street artist, graphic designer, illustrator, and activist. He first became known for his OBEY sticker campaign, using an image of Andre the Giant pulled from a copy of Weekly World News. He became widely known during the 2008 U.S. presidential election for his Barack Obama “Hope” poster, and had his first art museum exhibition in Boston at the Institute of Contemporary Art in 2009.
