Richard Yarde (American, 1939-2011)

Richard Yarde is known for his large-scale watercolor paintings that brilliantly depict the various stages of his life, from his early explorations of African-American culture to the documentation of his terminal illness. Yarde received his Bachelor of Fine Arts with honors from Boston University, and continued on to receive his Master of Fine Arts at the same institution. He stayed in the area and was a Professor of Fine Arts for many years at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. His work is represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Smithsonian Museum of Fine Arts; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the National Museum of American Art.
