Ruth Chan

Ruth Chan is a renowned British composer for theatre, film, television and concert works. Her film score Around China with a Movie Camera (British Film Institute) was recently performed at Flatpack Film Festival & Royal Festival Hall. Her music for television has been broadcast on BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Discovery Channel, National Geographic and many more.  Theatre credits include: ‘Taming of the Shrew’ (Royal Shakespeare Company), ‘Mountains: The Dreams of Lily Kwok’ (Royal Exchange Manchester), ‘Snow in Midsummer’ (Royal Shakespeare Company – nominated for The Stage Debut Award for Best Music), ‘Shangri-La’ (Finborough Theatre) and ‘The Last Days of Limehouse’ (Yellow Earth Theatre). Ruth’s mini musical Frankie and the Crow for Unicorn Theatre is due to premiere in June 2019. Ruth is on the National Theatre’s Music Theatre Group scheme.  Other Compositions include: The Triumph of Time, (Thailand International Composition Festival, Pianoforte Foundation – Chicago), Between Constellations (Pittsburgh Opera Festival/Grimeborn Festival), ‘Piccadilly Revisited’ (Royal Opera House, Hong Kong Arts Festival) and Moon’s Magnetism (Rich Mix, Albany, Trafalgar Square). Ruth is currently creating a new version of Madame Butterfly (Opera Up Close) due to premiere in 2020.
