Derek Sullivan is a Toronto-based artist who works with drawing, painting, sculpture, book works, and installation. Out Standing in a Field (2012-2022) is a colorful work made up of six panels. Sullivan’s interest in language and his fluid blend of visual imagery with text creates a unique experience for the viewer. He experiments with ideas of communication, translatability, and understanding (or lack thereof). The centrality of text in his work makes Sullivan easily comparable to Serra and his Verb List.
