Surabhi Ghosh believes that an artist’s role in the world is to, “create opportunities for wild, weird speculations.” This can certainly be seen in her work… By chance, choice, plan, or force, 2022 in which Ghosh, a Texas-born, Georgia-raised, Indian-American artist based in Montreal, Quebec, explores a wide variety of mediums and themes in her work. She works with textiles and patterns to create engaging installation pieces often placed in windows. Ghosh is interested in questions of diaspora, specifically South-Asian diaspora, as well as marginalized narratives, capitalism, materialism, and performance. Her practice centers around open-ended storytelling; “And I don’t think artists provide solutions or answers,” Ghosh has said, “I think we provide questions and problems.”
