Four Sheets to the Wind (2007)

Saturday, October 26, 3:00 PM
Community Foundation Theater, Gund Gallery

Director Sterlin Harjo’s first feature film, Four Sheets to the Wind is a coming of age story that follows Cufe Smallhill (Cody Lightning), a young Native American man reassessing his life and relationships after the death of his father. Premiering at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, the film was nominated for a grand jury prize and later that year, Harjo received a best director award for the film at the American Indian Film Festival. A poignant drama, the characters are relatable and exist as complex, contemporary individuals rather than historicized Native American personas.

First Nations Film Series

In partnership with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI), this curated series is inspired by themes found in the museum’s fall exhibitions and programs as well as issues important to our campus community. Films selected for this series are meant to underscore the contemporary realities faced by First Nations’ people. We hope the series broadens understanding and challenges assumptions.
