The Gund Gallery

The Gund’s staff and board of directors seek excellence across all dimensions of our operations. The following mission and values inform, guide, and invigorate our work and contributions. They stimulate original inquiry and individual exploration motivated through engagement with the best art and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. They permeate all the work we do for the benefit of our communities and collaborators.

The Gund Gallery celebrates the power of art as a critical centerpiece of Kenyon’s liberal arts mission and our community. We champion the best art and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries via an active exhibition schedule, expanding permanent collection, and formal and informal learning experiences.

We believe in:

  • Challenging assumptions
  • Questioning authority
  • Uncovering structures
  • Exercising curiosity
  • Defying categories
  • Creating culture
  • Experiencing innovation
  • Reflecting excellence
  • Thinking out loud
  • Seeing knowledge

Gund Gallery 2014-2018 Strategic Plan

In 2014, the Gund Gallery undertook a formal strategic planning process. A museum consultant was contracted by the President’s Office at Kenyon College to lead a representative planning team of faculty, board members, senior administrators, College staff, community members and Museum staff. This detailed and highly consultative ten-month process involved interviews of over sixty stakeholders (faculty, students, Museum board members, donors, College trustees, alumni and others) by the strategic planner, peer analysis of other liberal arts colleges and academic museums, and additional research. The mission and vision of the Gund was re-articulated and key priorities for 2014-2018 were defined. On October 25, 2014, the President presented the formal plan to the Gund Gallery Board of Directors, who unanimously approved it for implementation.
